403 Error and DNS Address Not Found Trying to Open P2 Security

This article applies to P2 Explorer versions 4.3.0-4.5.5.

Problem: DNS Address not found and 403 Error trying to open P2 Security

Description: When trying to access P2 Security Connect in Internet Explorer, a message appears saying that the site cannot be reached and DNS address cannot be found. Clicking the "Troubleshoot network issues" button shows a 403 error message.

Cause: The hostname in the Security tab in P2 Security Configuration was incorrect. This field must match the hostname and domain that your SSL certificate is valid for even if the machine is aliased on the domain to have multiple names.

Resolution: Open the P2 Security Configuration utility and change the hostname to match the SSL certificate, rather than using an alias.

Example: If your SSL Certificate is for the domain *.example.com and your server name is p2prod then the resulting Hostname should be p2prod.example.com
