Functions of a Trend

The points below describe what you can do to change the behaviour and appearance of a trend.

Add, Hide, or Remove a Trace

  • Add a Trace: Either drag and drop from the Tag or Hierarchy navigator into the Trace Window, or type a tag name, attribute name, or calculation into the Name column in the Trace Table. You can also add a tag or attribute value using the calculation editor, which is accessible from the trace table.
  • Hide a Trace: In the Trace Table, select the check-box to the left of the item name, to hide its trace line.
  • Remove a Trace: In the Trace Table, click the trash  icon next to the trace name.

Manipulate Data

  • Using the Controls: Use the Trend Controls to choose a time range, a sample method and a sample interval.

Range Selector

  • Get a Trend Overview: The Range Selector spans triple the trend period, providing context to the trend itself. Use this overview to decide which period to select. You can also scroll the timeline using the arrows to left or right of the range selector. If you need a longer period, adjust the selections in the Trend Controls (for example, select a Duration of 1 year).
  • Change a Period using the Range Selector: The range selector works together with the time selectors (Time Range or Now) to set the trend time range. By default, it spans triple the trend period (before, Trend Period, after), providing context to the trend itself.

Trace Table

  • Change a Trace's Y Axis: Trace items get a Left Y-Axis by default. In the Axis column of the Trace Table, click L to give a trace item a Left Y-Axis, and click R to give a trace item a Right Y-Axis.
  • Change a Trace's Colour: In the Trace Table, change a trace's colour by clicking on the colour cell for the trace, then selecting from the radial menu. Select a standard colour, or define a specific colour using the Custom Colour menu option.
  • Change a Trace's Opacity: In the Trace Table, change a trace's opacity by clicking on the colour cell for the trace, then selecting the Custom Colour option from the radial menu. Type in an Opacity (0-100%) on the Colour Panel.
  • Change a Trace's Format: In the Trace Table, change a trace's format by clicking on the format cell for the trace, then selecting from the radial menu. Options are Line, Area, Dot, Step Before and Step After.
  • Update the Display Min and Max: In the Trace Window, you can manually adjust the display minimum and maximum values to manipulate the Y-Axes.
  • Reset Display Min and Max: In the Trace Table, click the on the right of the display min or display max value for a trace item, to reset to the stored value.

Hairlines & Comments

  • Specify Hairlines: In the Trend Ribbon, specify allowable hairlines by selecting from the Hairlines drop-down: None, Single, Dual or Multiple.
  • Add a Hairline: In the Trace Window, click on a point to get a hairline, which is a vertical line marking out this time, with an information box to the side.
  • Add a Comment: In the Trace Window, add a new comment from a hairline's information box.
  • View/Reply to a Comment: In the Trace Window, existing comments are marked on a trace, at a point in time. Each comment has a dotted line to the X Axis. Click the little comment icon, to view or reply to a comment.
  • Search for Comments: If you cannot see any comments on a trace, add a hairline, then click on the Add Comment icon for the item. In the comment box, select dates under the Search Times section. Any comments within that period are listed, with the most recent at the top of the list.
  • View Dual Hairline Statistics: For the None, Single, or Multiple hairline modes, you can view the value column. This column changes to a drop-down list of Dual Hairline Statistics options, if the trend is in Dual hairline mode, and if two hairlines are selected.

Trend Ribbon

  • Trend Ribbon Features: The Trend Ribbon contains a large set functions including Refresh, Save, Navigators, Share, View, and Configuration options.
  • Refresh a Trend: To set an automatic refresh, using the Trend Controls, select Now, or click Refresh on the Trend ribbon tab.
  • Auto Range: In the Trend Ribbon, click Auto Range to automatically update the display minimum and maximum values for the different trace items, so that all of your trace data points are visible on the trend.
