Using Comments for Collaboration (4.4)

This article applies to versions 4.4.0-4.5.0 of P2 Explorer. For the latest, see Using Comments for Collaboration.

Overview

P2 Explorer trends and some pages allow you to enter comments about entities on the page or trend. This article describes how to identify comments and how to add them.

The Comments Button

A small comment icon on a page indicates that commentary has been enabled. The appearance of the icon may change, depending on the type of display and comments present.

Comments on a Trend

Comments are indicated on a trend by a vertical dotted line, with a comment image024 icon above. Click the comment icon to open the comment box to view, add, or reply to comments.

If you want to add a comment where none exists, click the trace to open a hairline, and then click the add comment image025 icon in the hairline box, next to the entity you are interested in. The comment is added for the date and time that is shown in the hairline.

Comments on a Page

Comments are indicated on a page by the comment icons (image024 or commenticonempty). Click the comment icon to open the comment box to view, add, or reply to comments.

Note: Depending on the page design, the comment box may also be displayed on a page without a comments button.

Commentsonpage

When you open the comment box, it displays a date range that has been specified by the page designer to be the default date range. It also shows all comments that have been added in that date range.

P2 Explorer allows you to see see all comments that have been made for that entity, all in one spot. The mechanism by which P2 Explorer exposes all comments related to a specific entity, is called "context", and this is something that the page designer does when creating a page.

As an entity can be used on lots of different pages, adding context to a comment means that you can see  all of the comments that have been made for that entity, every time you open the comments box, no matter which page you are looking at.

Using the Comments Box

On a page or trend, clicking any one of the comment icons (commenticonempty image024  image025) will open the comment box. This is where you can add comments, reply to comments, and find other comments, for that entity.

When you open the comment box, it displays a date range that has been specified by the page designer to be the default date range. It also shows all comments that have been added in that date range.

Finding a Comment

All comments within the specified time range are shown in the comment box, with the most recent one shown first.

To search for comments made at a specific date or within a date range, change the search dates. You can do this in the same way you would use the date picker.
